Livingstone Shire Fire Breaks

Can you believe Livingstone Shire Council has been charging property owners to create fire breaks!

Tomorrow I believe there will be special meeting with a mayoral minute where the Mayor will ask Councillors to remove the cost.

I believe it is a $1039 charge per application for clearing under operational works under the LSC planning act 2016 section 51.

The State Government doesn’t charge this fee our council does.

Why did they ever think they should charge such a cost at all.

Can you believe Livingstone Shire Council has been charging property owners to create fire breaks! Tomorrow I believe…

And this is the result of the special council meeting they had yesterday – Re firebreaks. Just too late!

Yesterday’s council resolution
THAT Council resolve to facilitate the clearing of vegetation for the purposes of bona fide bush fire mitigation by not pursuing development applications for compliance action for clearing of vegetation on land where that clearing is defined as exempt clearing work under the Vegetation Management Act 1997.
This applies to land either mapped or not mapped as State and/or Locally Significant Vegetation for the purpose of establishing or maintaining necessary firebreaks to protect:
1) dwelling houses (maximum of twenty (20) metres or 1.5 times the height of the tallest adjacent tree, whichever is the greater); and/or
2) ancillary outbuildings, infrastructure (including existing fences), and roads and tracks, to a maximum width of ten (10) metres.
